A popular Chinese saying goes, ‘If a guy isn’t a rascal, girls won’t fawn over him.’ If this belief is true, newcomer Elvin Ng will soon be in many a young girl’s fantasies! Portraying a hoodlum money collector Liangyi in the new drama A Life of Hope debuting today at 9pm, his good looks, rugged edge and heart of gold certainly spells ‘HEARTBREAKER HUNK’ in flashing neon.

While in real life Elvin is far from being a pai kia (bad boy), the National University of Singapore (NUS) English Literature undergraduate does have an independent and rebellious streak in him: he started modeling and giving tuition classes while still in school just because he wants to earn his own keep; and never try to get him to do something he doesn’t believe in!

The ex- Catholic High School and National Junior College student admittedly has a brain to match his dark good looks. But as he chatted animatedly with me for more than an hour (the affable chap even said to me “You reporters want juicy stories right? Let me think…”), this is one conclusion I came to: good looks and brains come packaged with their own troubles too!
