Born Jonathan Hieu-Nguyen Phan on May 20th 1985 in Los Angeles, California, Phan was raised under the influence of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Donnie Yen. It was sometime during those years that he decided to one day become an actor/martial artist. He also grew up watching Paris by Night, Van Son, and Asia.

It started when his family moved to Orange County. His mother enrolled him in a Tae Kwon Do school where he studied for about two years and quitting right before his freshman year of high school. It was there where he met Johnny Le who was part of a dance troupe known as Lac Hong. Le asked Phan to join the team, but Phan declined. During his Sophomore year, he performed a
martial arts routine for the first time in front of a live audience. Phan was feeling very nervous, because it was his first time performing in front of a live audience. When Phan stepped out onto the stage, the nerve wracking feeling he once felt slowly began to disappear. Eventually he came to realize that the audience doesn’t bite.

After his performance, he was approached by Mr. Luan Vu, leader and choreographer of Lac Hong Dance troupe A. He was in need of a martial artist at that time and offered Phan to join.

Gradually, Phan began performing more often by going to nearby elementary schools to perform martial arts shows for little kids, taking part in 4 high school plays, and performing in countless Lac Hong performances locally.

It wasn’t until Asia 20th Anniversary in Long Beach in 2001 that Phan performed with them for the very first time. He was a soldier in the song Hong Von Phu.

In 2003, Van Son asked the Lac Hong Dance Troupe to perform for his show in San Jose! Ever since then, Lac hong began performing in most of the Van Son shows. Mr. Luan Vu also gave Phan a chance to act in 2005 for Van Son in Little Saigon 2. From then on, Phan became a freelance actor for the Vietnamese Entertainment Industry.
