    Vincent Ng

Vincent Ng (Weng Qinghai) was a national wushu (Chinese martial arts) sportsman before he became an actor. He had brought glory to our country, Singapore. He participated in the 5th Star Search, a talent search competition organised by the Television Corporation of Singapore (TCS) (now known as MediaCorp), in 1997. Although he did not clinch the top 3 positions, he has won the hearts of many and has proven that he can act besides excelling in wushu.

The name Vincent Ng is synonymous with kungfu. The former World Wushu champion was talent-spotted during the 1997 Star Search finals because of his background. True enough, Vincent’s Wushu talent was quickly put to good use when he starred alongside Chinese martial arts star Chiu Mun Chiok in the period drama ‘Hero of The Times’.

His first big break as a vein-popping, Bruce Lee-wannabe in Hainan Kopi Tales was his “most tiring” role to date but it was worth all the hard work when he was voted one of the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes in Star Awards 2000.

The ex-Commando, has also been gathering awards at many international Wushu competitions as well as a SEA Games gold medal. This versatile athlete/actor will be choreographing and taking part in a martial arts sequence in this year’s NDP. We got Vincent to tell us a little bit more about it.

    Awards and Nominations

The lithe and quick Vincent is a gold medallist in the World Wushu Championships.

Though he has not been long in the business, the friendly and easy going boy-next-door has won himself countless fans and was nominated for the Most Popular Male Artiste Award in Star Awards 99.

    In Person

Vincent Ng was tipped to be one of the hottest contenders for Star Search 97. Being in the limelight is no new experience for this gold medallist in the World Wushu Championships in 1995.

Since the tender age of 12, Vincent has taken up ‘wushu’. Nicknamed “King of Sword” by his fellow teammates in the National Wushu Team of Singapore, Vincent’s forte lies in the fact that he can execute moves and stunts seamlessly. Because of this, Vincent was offered a meaty role as Nalan Dekai in Hero of The Times opposite Wing Chiu in 1999.

Fight skills aside, Vincent was offered a role in Facing The Music opposite Ann Kok and Guan Dehui as a test of his acting skills in 1998.

    Unforgettable Experience:

Winning Gold medals for Singapore, 2½ years of training in the army (commando 3rd company) like parachute jumping, Star Search contest

Goal: Bring the best life to his family, as he is the eldest son
Future Plans: Spread wushu around the world
